Which Bluetooth printer can I use for harvest labels?

Portable and desktop printers used for Farmable harvest labels

Written by Enja Matthee

When printing harvest labels, most growers ideally want a portable printer that can move with the harvest team and print directly from a phone or tablet.

Farmable does not require a specific printer model, but we have seen successful setups with a number of Brother printers.

TL;DR

If you are choosing a printer for Farmable harvest labels, look for a model that:

  • Is portable and battery-powered if you want to print in the field

  • Connects directly to your phone or tablet

  • Supports Farmable's standard 4 x 2 inch harvest labels

  • Can print without requiring you to recreate the label in a separate printer app

We have seen successful use of the following Brother models:

  • Brother QL-1110NWBc

  • Brother QL-1100

These are reliable options for a fixed harvest station, shed or packhouse.

For growers who need a truly portable field printer, we recommend checking with Farmable before purchasing so we can confirm whether the specific model has already been tested or used successfully by another grower.

Portable printing in the field

For many farms, the ideal setup is to print labels directly at the point of harvest.

A portable printer should ideally have:

  • A rechargeable battery

  • Bluetooth connectivity

  • Support for 4 x 2 inch labels

  • Direct printing from the phone or tablet used with Farmable

  • A simple workflow that does not depend on a separate label-design app

Portable printer compatibility can vary between models, so we recommend confirming the exact model before purchasing several units.

Brother QL-1110NWBc

The Brother QL-1110NWBc has been successfully used by Farmable growers for printing harvest labels.

It supports:

  • Bluetooth

  • Wi-Fi

  • Labels up to 4 inches wide

  • Farmable's standard 4 x 2 inch label format

  • Automatic cutting

This is a desktop printer and is best suited to a fixed location such as a packhouse, shed or harvest station.

Brother QL-1100

We have also seen successful use of the Brother QL-1100 with Farmable harvest labels.

It supports:

  • Wide-format labels up to 4 inches

  • Farmable's standard 4 x 2 inch harvest labels

  • Automatic cutting

  • Desktop printing

This is another good option for a fixed printing station.

Farmable harvest label size

Farmable's default harvest label size is:

4 x 2 inches

When choosing a printer and label roll, make sure both support this format.
