What is the Farmable MCP connector?

Connect Farmable to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex and ask about your farm records in your own words.

Written by Enja Matthee

TL;DR: The Farmable MCP connector links your Farmable account to an AI assistant. Sign in with your Farmable login, then ask about your farm in a chat. The assistant reads your records and answers from them, but it can't change anything. It's free on every plan, for farm Owners and Managers, and the farm Owner turns it on first in the Farmable Web Portal.

How it works

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way AI assistants connect to other apps. Farmable runs one MCP server for growers, and Claude, ChatGPT, and Codex all connect to it.

In most apps, you find Farmable in the connector or plugin list and select Connect. If your app asks for the details, use these:

Server URL

Authentication

OAuth: sign in with your Farmable email and password

Access

Read-only

Turn on Farmable MCP first

Before anyone can connect an assistant, the farm's Owner has to turn on Farmable MCP in the Farmable Web Portal. This applies to the Owner too, and Managers can't connect until it's on.

  1. In the Farmable Web Portal, go to Settings → Integrations.

  2. On the MCP tab, turn on Farmable MCP.

  3. The MCP server URL appears, with a Copy URL button in case your AI tool asks for it.

Farmable is only where you switch the connector on. You don't chat in Farmable: you ask your questions in Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Cursor.

What you can ask about

The assistant sees the same data you see in Farmable, including:

Area

What the assistant can read

Farms and fields

Fields and their current state, crops, plant dates, equipment, weather forecast

Jobs and records

Jobs, treatments, harvests, and field notes with their text and links to attached photos

Products

Product list, stock on hand, product costs

Soil and fertilization

Soil lab reports, sample values, fertilization plans

People and time

Farm members (name, role, email address and plant protection license, if recorded), seasonal workers (name, the ID your farm gave them, and their hours), work teams, timesheets

Sales

Customer name, city and country, quantities, prices, any comment on the sale, harvest in storage

Customer records in Farmable have no email address or phone number, and the connector doesn't return customers' street addresses.

Questions to try:

  • Which fields were sprayed in the last 7 days, and with which products?

  • How much have we harvested from each field this season?

  • Which products are running low in stock?

  • Show the spray treatment history for block 4 this season.

  • How many hours did the team spend on pruning last month?

If you have more than one farm, name the farm in your question.

What it can't do

The connector is read-only. The assistant can't add, change, or delete anything in Farmable, so keep recording work in the Farmable app.

It also doesn't replace product labels or agronomic advice. For export questions, the assistant compares your records with what it knows about EU residue limits, so check its answer against the official lists.

Who can use it

Only the Owner of a farm and its Managers can use the connector, and it only reads farms where you have one of those roles. Other roles, such as Crew, Drivers, Advisors and Admins, can't use it.

Each person connects with their own Farmable account, so the assistant only sees that person's farms.

Farm owners control AI access. The owner of a farm can turn AI assistant access off at any time under Settings → Integrations in Farmable. While it's off, no one on the farm can read it through an AI assistant, the owner included.

Before you connect

The assistant can read details about other people on your farm: farm members, seasonal workers, and customers. Only connect a farm if you're allowed to share that information with the AI company you've chosen.

What the assistant reads becomes part of your chat, and the AI company keeps your chats under its own privacy policy. Check its settings for chat retention and model training before you connect.

Use with other MCP apps

Any app that supports MCP servers can use Farmable. Give it the server URL above and it connects automatically; you sign in with your Farmable account when the Farmable page opens. See How do I add Farmable by URL?

FAQs

Can the assistant change my records?

No. It can only read them. Jobs, notes and harvests are still recorded in the Farmable app.

What happens to the data the assistant reads?

It becomes part of your chat, so the AI company stores it with your conversation under its own privacy terms. See Farmable MCP connector: FAQs for what Farmable keeps.
