How do I add Farmable by URL?

Add the Farmable MCP server yourself in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP app when you can't install it from the directory.

Written by Enja Matthee

TL;DR: The farm Owner turns on Farmable MCP in the Farmable Web Portal and copies the server URL. Paste it into your AI tool as a new connector or MCP server, sign in with your Farmable account, and it connects automatically.

Who is this for?

Farm Owners and Managers who:

  • use an app that doesn't show Farmable in its connector or plugin directory;

  • use another app that supports MCP servers; or

  • were asked by our support team to add it this way, for example, to test a fix.

If Farmable is in your app's directory, install it from there instead. Don't keep both connected, or the assistant may use either one.

1. Turn on Farmable MCP and copy the URL

In the Farmable Web Portal, go to Settings → Integrations, open the MCP tab and turn on Farmable MCP. The MCP server URL appears. Select Copy URL.

Only the farm's Owner can turn it on, and nobody can connect until it's on, the Owner included. It can't be turned on from your AI tool. If you're a Manager, ask the Owner to turn it on, then copy the URL: https://api.my.farmable.tech/mcp/farm.

2. Add the URL to your AI tool

Claude: go to Customize → Connectors, select + Add, then Add custom connector. Enter Farmable as the name, paste the URL and select Add. On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner of your Claude organization adds custom connectors under Organization settings → Connectors.

ChatGPT: this needs developer mode, which isn't offered on every plan and can be turned off by a workspace admin. Turn on Developer mode in ChatGPT's settings, open Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server. Enter Farmable as the name, paste the URL, choose OAuth, accept the warning and select Create.

Cursor: open Cursor Settings → Tools & MCP and select New MCP Server. Add Farmable to the mcp.json file that opens and save it:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "farmable": {
      "url": "https://api.my.farmable.tech/mcp/farm"
    }
  }
}

Other MCP apps: add the URL as a new MCP server or connector. Any app that supports MCP servers works.

3. Sign in with your Farmable account

Select Connect next to Farmable if your app shows it. When the Farmable sign-in page opens, sign in with your Farmable email and password. The app then connects automatically.

4. Ask your question in your AI tool

Ask your question in your AI tool and name your farm. You don't chat in Farmable itself.

In ChatGPT, open Farmable under Plugins and select Refresh when we release new features, so ChatGPT picks them up.

Remove Farmable

  • Claude: go to Customize → Connectors, open the ⋯ menu next to Farmable and select Remove.

  • Other apps: remove the server in the app's MCP settings.

FAQs

Is a connector added by URL different from the directory one?

No. Both connect to the same Farmable server, read the same records and are read-only.

Why do I see a warning in ChatGPT?

ChatGPT warns about every custom MCP server it hasn't reviewed. The Farmable plugin in the directory has been reviewed by OpenAI, so install that one if you can.
