Get the right tools for the job.
Dozens of farm software tools exist. Some are built for growers, some for agronomists, some for one crop or one country. This guide covers the main tools in each market, what they do, who they're built for, and where Farmable fits.
What you need to know in 30 seconds
Farmable is built for specialty crop growers but works across arable and row crops too. It's grower-first, meaning the person in the field can use it without training, not just the agronomist in the office.

Questions worth asking any farm software vendor
These aren't trick questions, they're things that genuinely matter when you're choosing software you'll use every day on the farm.
Is this built for the grower or the agronomist?
Some of the tools in this comparison are designed around the advisor workflow - the grower is a secondary user. That's not necessarily wrong, but it means the person in the field may need training to use it.
Is your software ready for EU digital record-keeping from 1 January 2027?
The EU requires mandatory electronic record-keeping for plant protection products from 1 January 2027. Farmable is already ready. Ask every other vendor the same question.
What does it cost per farm, per year - and what's not included?
Several tools in this comparison require hardware purchases on top of software subscriptions. Others have opaque enterprise pricing. Farmable publishes per-farm pricing on our pricing page.
Is it available on mobile?
The field is where records get made. If the tool is desktop-first or the mobile app is a stripped-down viewer, expect double entry and missed jobs. Farmable is a mobile-first app for iOS and Android with a full desktop portal for planning and reporting.
Does it work offline?
Orchards, vineyards and remote paddocks often have no signal. If the app needs connectivity to log a spray, records get lost or entered hours later from memory. Farmable works offline and syncs automatically when the device is back on network.
Who owns the data?
Your farm data is a business asset. Some platforms claim rights to resell or share your records with third parties. Read the terms. With Farmable, you own your data, you can export it at any time, and we never sell it.
Questions farmers ask when choosing software
What is farm management software?
Farm management software helps farmers plan, record and report on what happens on their farm - spraying, fertilisation, harvests, labour, compliance and sales. The best tools work on a smartphone in the field, not just on a desktop in the office.
What is the difference between a Farm OS and a compliance tool?
A Farm OS covers the full range of farm activities. A compliance tool focuses on the records you need for audits and government reporting. Farmable is a full Farm OS with compliance built in.
How does Farmable compare to xFarm?
xFarm is a large European platform with 169,000+ farms. Farmable is grower-first - designed so the person in the field can use it without training. Farmable has direct government integrations with Spain, Norway and Switzerland, and nationally approved pesticide lists for 9 countries.
Is farm management software worth it for a small farm?
Yes - for most farms, the time saved on compliance paperwork alone pays for the software many times over. Most tools including Farmable have per-farm pricing that scales with farm size.
What should I look for in farm management software?
Five things: (1) Does the grower in the field find it easy to use? (2) Does it include your nationally approved pesticide list? (3) Does it produce audit-ready reports? (4) Is there a direct government reporting integration? (5) Can you see the price without speaking to a salesperson?
What is the EU digital record-keeping requirement for 2027?
From 1 January 2027, the EU requires mandatory electronic record-keeping for plant protection product applications across all EU member states. Farmable is already compliant.
