BBCH Growth Stages and EPPO Codes
Make spray records more standardised and audit-ready.

Why it matters
We've added EPPO crop codes and BBCH growth stages to Farmable to make spray records more standardised and audit-ready.
What is EPPO?
EPPO codes are standardised identifiers used to consistently label crops (and other plant-related categories) across systems and reports. Using EPPO codes means your spray records refer to crops in the same way as government reporting systems, advisory tools, and audit bodies, reducing errors and inconsistencies.
What is BBCH?
The BBCH scale is a standardised way to describe a crop's growth stage using defined stages from early development through harvest. Capturing the BBCH stage at the time of a spray means your record shows not just what was applied, but exactly where in the crop's development cycle, critical for EU 2027 digital record keeping compliance.
What this adds to your records
Capture the crop's stage across key phases
During a spray job, select the BBCH growth stage for that field. The stage is recorded alongside every product applied, rate used, and weather condition logged.
A standardised way to describe crop development
EPPO codes and BBCH stages mean your records use the same language as government reporting systems (Mattilsynet, SIEX, and others), making export and audit straightforward.
Improves traceability and compliance
Records that include growth stage are more complete and easier to verify during GlobalG.A.P., Red Tractor, or EU Digital Record Keeping audits.
Keeps records cleaner with less effort
Selecting from a standardised list means fewer spelling variants, no duplicates, and consistent records across your whole team.
When planning a spray job, Farmable prompts you to fetch causes from the EPPO list, your government's approved list, or your own custom causes.
From 1 January 2027, digital spray records are mandatory across the EU. BBCH growth stages and EPPO codes are part of what makes a Farmable record audit-ready for the new requirements.

BBCH growth stages are widely used in German agronomy and are referenced in BVL spray record requirements.
Common Questions
EPPO codes are standardised crop identifiers used across European plant protection reporting systems. Using EPPO codes in your spray records means your data uses the same crop labels as government reporting tools and audit bodies, reducing the risk of mismatches, duplicates, or rejected submissions.
